Class Levels

Beginner:
A1 (0-400 words)
A2 (400-800 words)

Beginner level includes students that have never learned Chinese, or who have learned Chinese phonetics and a few words, but cannot express themselves in complete sentences.

Elementary:
B1 (800-1100 words)
B2 (1100-1500 words)

Elementary level students are required to know at least 800 Chinese words. These students have basic knowledge of systematic grammar and sentence structure.

Intermediate:
C1 (1500-2000 words)
C2 (2000-2500 words)

Intermediate level students are required to know at least 1500 Chinese words. These students are conversational at a basic level in Chinese.

Advanced:
D1 (2000-3000 words)
D2 (3000-3500 words)

Advanced level students are required to know at least 2000 Chinese words. These students can express their opinions and general topics with good intonation.

Proficient:
E1 (3500+ words)

Proficient level students are required to know at least 3,500 Chinese words. These students are able to read from newspapers and magazines, understand radio and television broadcasts, and can express themselves systematically using appropriate expressions and language norms.
