HSK Oral Test:
HSK Elementary (equivalent of written levels 1 & 2)
150-300 basic Chinese words as well as the corresponding rules of grammar.
The oral test of HSK (Elementary) assesses test takers’ abilities in the expression of everyday Chinese. It is the counterpart of the Level¢ñor Level¢ò of the Chinese Language Proficiency Scales for Speakers of Other Languages and the A Level of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEF). Test takers who are able to pass the Oral Test of HSK (Elementary) can understand and communicate on daily topics. They can basically meet the need of communication.
The Oral Test of HSK (Elementary) is intended for students who have studied Chinese for one or two semesters (half or one academic year), with 2-3 class hours in each week.
HSK Intermediate (equivalent of written levels 3 & 4)
600-1200 Chinese words as well as the corresponding rules of grammar.
The Oral Test of HSK (Intermediate) assesses test takers’ abilities in the expression of everyday Chinese. It is the counterpart of the Level¢ó or Level¢ô of the Chinese Language Proficiency Scales for Speakers of Other Languages and the B Level of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEF). Test takers who are able to pass the Oral Test of HSK (Intermediate) can understand and communicate with native speakers relatively fluently.
The Oral Test of HSK (Intermediate) is intended for students who have studied Chinese for one or two academic years, with 2-3 class hours in each week.
HSK Advanced (equivalent of written levels 5 & 6)
2500-5000 Chinese words as well as the corresponding rules of grammar.
The Oral Test of HSK (Advanced) assesses test takers’ abilities in the expression of everyday Chinese. It is the counterpart of the Level¢õ of the Chinese Language Proficiency Scales for Speakers of Other Languages and the C Level of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEF). Test takers who are able to pass the Oral Test of HSK (Advanced) can understand and communicate with native speakers fluently.
The Oral Test of HSK (Advanced) is intended for students who have studied Chinese for more than two academic years with 2-3 class hours in each week.
HSK Written Test:
Level 1
Examination candidates who reach HSK-Level 1 can understand and use simple words and sentences to fulfill specific communication needs and have a foundation for the further study of Chinese.
HSK (Level I) assesses test takers’ abilities in the application of everyday Chinese. It is the counterpart of the Level I of the Chinese Language Proficiency Scales for Speakers of Other Languages and the A1 Level of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEF). Test takers who are able to pass the HSK (Level I) can understand and use very simple Chinese phrases, meet basic needs for communication and possess the ability to further their Chinese language studies.
The HSK (Level I) is intended for students who have studied Chinese for a semester (half an academic year), with 2-3 class hours in each week. These students have mastered 150 commonly used words and basic grammar patterns.
Level 2
Examination candidates who reach HSK-Level 2 can communicate simply and directly on daily topics they are familiar with. Level 2 have reached the advanced stage of beginner level.
The HSK (Level II) assesses test takers’ abilities in the application of everyday Chinese. It is the counterpart of the Level II of the Chinese Language Proficiency Scales for Speakers of Other Languages and the A2 Level of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEF). Test takers who are able to pass the HSK (Level II) have an excellent grasp of basic Chinese and can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters.
The HSK (Level II) is intended for students who have studied Chinese for two semesters (an academic year), with 2-3 class hours in each week. These students have mastered 300 commonly used words and related grammar patterns.
Level 3
Examination candidates who reach HSK-Level 3 can complete basic communication tasks in daily life, study and work. If traveling in China, Level 3 can handle most communication tasks they encounter.
The HSK (Level III) assesses test takers’ abilities in the application of everyday Chinese. It is the counterpart of the Level III of the Chinese Language Proficiency Scales for Speakers of Other Languages and the B1 Level of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEF). Test takers who are able to pass the HSK (Level III) can communicate in Chinese at a basic level in their daily, academic and professional lives. They can manage most communication in Chinese when travelling in China.
The HSK (Level III) is intended for students who have studied Chinese for three semesters (one and a half academic years), with 2-3 class hours in each week. These students have mastered 600 commonly used words and related grammar patterns.
Level 4
Examination candidates who reach HSK-Level 4 can discuss a relatively wide range of topics in Chinese and are able to communicate with native speakers.
The HSK (Level¢ô) assesses test takers’ abilities in the application of everyday Chinese. It is the counterpart of the Level ¢ô of the Chinese Language Proficiency Scales for Speakers of Other Languages and the B2 Level of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEF). Test takers who are able to pass the HSK (Level ¢ô) can discuss in Chinese on topics of various fields. They can communicate in Chinese with native speakers without much problem.
The HSK (Level ¢ô) is intended for students who have studied Chinese for four semesters (two academic years), with 2-3 class hours in each week. These students have mastered 1200 commonly used words.
Level 5
Examination candidates who reach HSK-Level 5 can read Chinese newspapers and magazines, appreciate Chinese films and television, and are able to write and deliver a full speech.
The HSK (Level¢õ) assesses test takers’ abilities in the application of everyday Chinese. It is the counterpart of the Level¢õ of the Chinese Language Proficiency Scales for Speakers of Other Languages and the C1 Level of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEF). Test takers who are able to pass the HSK (Level ¢õ) can read Chinese newspapers and magazines and enjoy Chinese movie and television program. They can give a relatively integrate Chinese speech.
The HSK (Level ¢õ) is intended for students who have studied Chinese for four semesters (two academic years), with 2-4 class hours in each week. These students have mastered 2500 commonly used words.
Level 6
Examination candidates who reach HSK-Level 6 can easily understand what they read and listen and express themselves fluently in written and oral Chinese.
The HSK (Level¢ö) assesses test takers’ abilities in the application of everyday Chinese. It is the counterpart of the Level¢ö of the Chinese Language Proficiency Scales for Speakers of Other Languages and the C2 Level of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEF). Test takers who are able to pass the HSK (Level ¢ö) can easily understand what was heard or read in Chinese. They can express themselves fluently in oral or written form.
The HSK (Level ¢ö) is intended for students who have mastered 5000 or above commonly used words.
