Yangshuo Fun Run
February 2014 marked the first Yangshuo Fun Run, a community fundraiser organised by Omeida which will now be an annual event. It started as an idea for a student activity and developed into an initiative which can bring benefit to the community for years to come. Both Omeida students and other members of the community could join the 5km run (or walk) to help raise funds for JimaPrimary school which is located in a poor village on the outskirts of Yangshuo. Participants in the event not only get to contribute to the local community but also enjoy the route which encapsulates the best of what Yangshuo has to offer; majestic mountain peaks, local markets, historic Xi Jie (West St) and the famous Li River. In the 2014 event, enough donations were gifted by participants and local businesses to enable the primary school to purchase stationery, educational resources and sporting equipment to assist with the children's learning.
Over previous years, Omeida has also helped fund building repairs and educational technology for Jima Primary School. We not only believe in the importance of language education but also the educating the future generations. In the wise words of Nelson Mandela- ‘Education is the most powerful weapon we can use the change the world.’
