Last weekend, we went to Shangri-la in Yangshuo, this is a theme park of sorts. In Chinese it is called ‘shiwaitaoyuan (世外桃源), the worlds peach blossom garden’. Though all the young ladies who guide us through will speak little or no English, it is still a lovely place to go and a great photo opportunity. We take a mini-barge down the river and are shown some of the amazing culture that spawned on the edge of the Yangshuo river estuary. After this, we had a walk through all the shops which are full of the handicrafts from ‘Block printing’ to hand woven neck-ties and magnificent statues carved from wood.
On the lake stands a traditional building complex, actually a roofed bridge, called Wind-and-rain Bridge which is the symbolic architecture of the Dong Minority people living in this area. It’s a wooden architecture, elegantly erected without even one snail.
This place showcases a natural paradise to us, is really impressive and we had a very good time.
