Trip for the Festival of Thinning Out the Seedlings in Longsheng

China has a long history of agricultural production and it has a 700 million agricultural population of the total. China’s agricultural acreage is 12.1 billion hectares and ranks the third place in the world. In the output of grain, China is second to none.

There are two minorities in Longsheng Pingan village. The lady in the picture is a Yao person.

These decoration of head scarf and clothing are Zhuang people.

The terraced fields are built along the slope winding from the riverside up to the mountain top, between 600 to 800 meters (2,000 to 2,600 ft) above sea level. A snaky terrace line that starts from the mountain foot up to the mountain top divides the mountain into layers of water in spring, layers of green rice shoots in summer, layers of rice in fall, and layers of frost in winter. Longji (Dragon's Backbone) Terraced Rice Fields received their name because the rice terraces resemble a dragon's scales, while the summit of the mountain range looks like the backbone of the dragon.

The Festival of Thinning Out the Seedlings 2017 in Longsheng Rice Terrace Fields Has Ended Successfully.

To celebrate the festival, Pingan villages held a Zhuang style event last week Saturday 3rd June, 2017. They sacrificed to Seedling God who is considered as the protect god to the seedlings. And people pray for good harvest in the year. Tourists are offered the changes to catch pheasants, fish and they fought for their villages by playing the game-tug of war in the muddy fields. As rewards, the first three places got a big sow and cash money from 2000-4000yuan. In the evening, people watched a grand fireworks party in the fields and Zhuang village show in a village school play ground. It was a great weekend there in Longsheng.

We went uphill by following the crowd; some rolled up their bottom of trousers and wanted to step into the muddy fields.

People are waiting for catching pheasants.
