Cultural class-River Lantern
In ancient China, people thought everything originated from fire which is a symbol to warmth and luck. They can use fire to fight against the cold weather and get light.

We gave cultural class about the special way, floating river lanterns, to celebrate for different festivals in China.

During fishing generation, people will float river lantern before they go fishing on the sea to make a wish that they can protect from the storm. Those lanterns are called colorful boat lantern. (彩船灯)

As time goes by, floating river lantern has become a religious activity. Every year, on July 15th in Chinese Lunar Calendar, we call it half of July (七月半). The traditional custom has been spread to all over of China with the development of Buddhism and Taoism.

The river lantern festival is one of the most solemn ceremonies of worship. It will last 3 days and people get together and celebrate through lion dance、dragon dance and other performance from minorities in Ziyuan which is a small town in Guilin.

Millie‘s last week at here, we decide to float all the river lanterns made by ourselves after class dinner and to wish we all best.
Different areas for different date for floating, on Valentine's Day, Middle Autumn Festival Mach 3rd in Chinese lunar calendar, it has been one of the most popular customs for young people.
