Omeida Language School offers a fully inclusive, flexible volunteering program where you can immerse yourself in the Chinese culture and language, develop new skills, add some international experience to your resume, create lifelong memories and make heaps of new friends whilst surrounded by dramatic scenery in one of the most beautiful towns in the world.
The program ensures you have plenty of time off to explore the surrounding country side. Your weekends are completely free for your own adventures, or you can join in on the Saturday excursions with Omeida's Chinese and English language students at no extra cost.
How the program works?
Omeida's volunteer program offers you the experience of your lifetime without requiring a long term commitment or breaking the bank!
Your required volunteer commitment is 10 hours per week - Monday to Friday in the afternoon and evening running one-on-one sessions with Chinese students learning English. And do some document work or give some idea help for activity organization if Omeida needs. If you would like to be more involved with the school, then please let us know and we can create a custom placement for you. Options include working as an English teaching assistant, event photographer, marketing specialist, event coordinator, or journalist writing news articles for the website.
During the first two weeks of the program, 30 Mandarin lessons are included to ensure you get the most out of your time in China. You will be in a class of 2-6 students at the same level as you.
This volunteer program provides you with the best of both worlds, a chance to experience 'real' China and get some international work experience. You will also meet many Chinese students who are learning English, so you will be able to communicate with them to ask those questions that really help you understand a country - like what does the translation of Coca Cola mean in Chinese and does the government really make it rain?
What does the program include?
- A reputable volunteer program in China. 1 - 2 hours per day, Monday to Friday work required speaking one-on-one with students learning English. Additional work experience in the field of your choice can be arranged on request including as an English teaching assistant, event photographer, marketing specialist, event coordinator, or journalist.
- Accommodation Shared Accommodation with ensuite, 24hr hot water, air-conditioning and heating, internet access and free use of washing machine, within a 2-10 minute walk from school. There is also an option for private accommodation for a payment of 200RMB per month, 100RMB per fortnight.
- All meals on weekdays at the Omeida canteen. The meals are Chinese style and available as dine-in or takeaway.
- Mandarin lessons Omeida will provide you with 30 Mandarin lessons during your first two weeks in China (3 lessons per day Monday to Friday), in classes of 2-6 students at the same level as you. Classes are guaranteed to run and are Lonely Planet recommended.
- Textbook and learning materials
- Guided tour of Yangshuo. On arrival, you will be shown around town, such as the supermarket, West Street and where to buy a mobile phone sim card etc.
- Free participation in weekly Thursday night social nights including BBQs, cocktails nights, competitions and games
- Free participation on the Saturday sightseeing outing. Activities include rafting, drifting, cycling, hiking, or trips to ancient villages and often includes lunch.
- After school activities such as volleyball, basketball, ping pong and video nights

- To be at least 18 years of age
- You must have completed high school/secondary school

- You don't need to be able to speak Chinese Mandarin
