“Best academy in China”——Xaxa from Spain

After finishing my short-term contract in a hotel, I decided to leave Spain for three months in order to learn some mandarin (my biological parents language). That was my first adventure out of home; and alone! I was quite scared of what would I find in a place with such a different culture and language and which wasn't popular as big crowded cities like Shanghai or Beijing.

After coming back I can just say one thing: that was the best choice I could have ever done :) I came across with amazing teachers, amazing people and amazing surroundings (not amazing weather, though). Teachers will become your friends as well as your language partner and other people from all over the world who is having the same experience as you.

I will definitely repeat it and hope to be back there within a year!!

Omeida is a school with friendly and talented staff, and some well thought out and interesting ways to help you learn Chinese. They also take care of a lot of things like housing, transportation to and from the school, and daily meals, which make your time here very stress free, although you can opt out and arrange these yourself if you'd like.

The Chinese school is the mirror of an English school for Chinese students, and they make it easy to make friends with Chinese students. They set you up with a Chinese roommate and language partner, and you can easily meet them in the canteen. Since you are only in class for 6 hours a day, this gives you a great opportunity to practice Chinese on the weekends and in the evenings. You can also learn a lot from them about modern China, like what kinds of things are important, what's trendy, what activities people do in their spare time, etc. There are also options for English speakers to volunteer teaching English to Chinese students and reduce expenses. The Chinese students from all over China are also joined by international students from all over the world, meaning that there is always something funny or interesting to learn culturally or linguistically.

The teachers are excellent and each have their own style, and if you take the intensive course they mix and match your teachers so you can have access to multiple ways of learning. My morning teacher (Becky) focused more on conversation and vocabulary, had funny and interesting stories about modern China, and contrasted phenomena in other countries and China. My afternoon teacher (Cindy) focused more on grammar constructions and had great and unique ideas for playing out real life scenarios, which also helped stretch the capabilities of our Chinese. Both are highly recommended.

Another big plus of learning Chinese here is the setting, and it affects the personality of the place. If you're going to learn Chinese, you might as well do it in one of the most beautiful places in China, if not the world. There is a variety of nightlife and outdoor activities in Yangshuo, which gives you even more chances to practice with Chinese friends, and it's also much more relaxed than a bigger city, meaning that while learning Chinese, you feel like you're on vacation. The teachers and staff will mix with the students and go to dinner, bars, karaoke, or have tea or dessert with the students, which makes you feel like it's more than just a job for them. A great life experience and a great school combined into one.
