Cultural class-the folk art “花鸟字”
Cultural class for this week was about folk art “花鸟字”(huā niǎo zì), which is combined with the Chinese painting and Calligraphy. Birds, flowers, bamboo, dragons and phoenixes are the most typical parts in designing the characters. Nowadays, the artists can also use English characters to make their designs.
It was an honor for us to invite one local artist to give us a class. Becky interviewed her and they talked about the experience in learning this type of art. The artist talked about the most important thing for this kind of the painting, which is the distribution of the different drawings. After the brief introduction, we learned the basic skills and tried to do our own painting.
