Eight Fundamental Strokes of Chinese Calligraphy

诸葛老师教书法。zhū gě lǎo shī jiāo shū fǎ. Chinese character has a boxy shape that requires us a lot to learn. Such as, sit in a proper way, how to hold a Chinese writing brush, how to move your wrist and so on.

Teacher Zhuge this time taught us what the basic strokes of Chinese calligraphy are. Only if you manage these essential requirements can you make beautiful Chinese calligraphy.

There are the eight fundamental strokes of Chinese calligraphy. A侧cè
is to let your writing brush move sideways slowly. Followed by勒, which refers to starting a stroke with a very steady rate and end up with like to rein in one’s horse. The third element is a straight stroke which should be done in a strength way. It seems that the stroke is like a full bow. This action is called努. At the edge of努nǔ is a foot in the action of kicking called趯. It’s requested be done very smooth and neatly. The following is策. The movement is like to forward a horse with your whip. Then goes with the stroke of掠luè which is from a strong movement to a slightly finish as a dragonfly touching on the water. The seventh movement is啄zhuó. It could be considered as a woodpecker pecking a tree. The last stroke is called磔zhé. This movement is from a slight start to a stretch.
